Global acquisitions by corporate acquirers have hit the second highest year-to-date volume on record with deals valued at US$764.3bn this year – up 71% on the 2013 YTD level of US$446.5bn – and accounting for 77% of the overall M&A volume so far this year, the highest proportion since the 83% registered in 1996 YTD.

Corporate acquisitions have been driven by EMEA-based buyers so far in 2014 and following three consecutive year-on-year decreases, the volume of acquisitions by EMEA acquirers has more than doubled from last year’s YTD figure of US$108bn to US$234.5bn – the highest volume since 2007’s US$386.6bn.
